M&C in the news: Carbon’s dual-cure 3D printing patent upheld on appeal

A Board of Appeal at the EPO has rejected a challenge against Carbon's foundational dual-core 3D printing patent, upholding the broadest claim of Carbon’s European Patent No. 3158400. The decision restored additional dependent claims that had been removed during the original opposition proceedings.

Carbon's dual-core technology combines light-based printing with a secondary thermal curing reaction, enabling the production of high-performance parts tailored to different applications. The patenting technology supports end-use production across sectors including automotive, dental, medical and consumer products.

Mairi Rudkin and Donald McNab represented Carbon in the proceedings before the EPO Board of Appeal, with the successful outcome gaining coverage across VoxelMatters, TCT Magazine, and Robotics & Automation News, highlighting the strength of the patented technology and its importance to Carbon's platform.
