In addition, the country is rich in resources such as palm oil, rubber and petroleum, and has become a manufacturing hub for electronics and consumer goods, with major government initiatives supporting biotechnology and information technology. Malaysia is also a leading destination for bio-prospecting due to its ecological diversity, with one of the highest numbers of endemic species in the world.

Malaysia receives a significant amount of foreign direct investment and is the centre of the oil and gas industry for Southeast Asia, where many oil majors have established their regional offices.
In light of the potential for innovation, rapid economic progress and the open business environment, Marks & Clerk established an office in Kuala Lumpur in 2009, and is now based in the same building as the Malaysian Intellectual Property Office.
