Edinburgh

Edinburgh

Europe

From medicine to microelectronics, Scotland’s capital city continues to invent a future to match its illustrious past. We have had an office in Edinburgh for over 20 years.

Since its establishment, the patent and trade mark practice has grown to cover all the sectors in operation in the east of Scotland, including life sciences (biotechnology and pharmaceuticals), industrial chemicals, electronics, software, medical devices, food and drink, financial services, luxury goods and fashion.

As well as working with many large multinational companies, and being closely involved in the thriving local start-up scene, the Chartered (UK) and European patent attorneys in our Edinburgh office have notable strength and experience in working with universities and other academic institutions. Bridging the gap between the academic and the commercial, our attorneys advise inventors, guide spin-outs and assist tech transfer departments to maximise the value of their intellectual property. Our team advises start-ups, SMEs and large multinational companies alike, combining specialised scientific backgrounds with clear commercial acumen.

Our Scottish trade mark team work across the Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen offices to support clients throughout the whole of Scotland. Our team advise Scottish start-ups, SMEs and large multinational companies on domestic and international brand protection and enforcement. The team of Chartered (UK) and European Trade Mark Attorneys work with businesses across a wide range of different industries. Our team has notable experience of advising clients that operate within the thriving Scottish food and drink sector.

Our office is situated in Edinburgh’s Exchange District, a short walk from Edinburgh Castle.

A patentee can bring an action for infringement only once the patent has been granted.  The claim need not be restricted to acts committed after grant.  It can extend to acts which were committed before the grant but after the date of publication of the patent application.
