In just over a week, Principal Claire Keating will be heading to the International Trademark Association (INTA) 2025 Annual Meeting for the first time. We had a chat with her about the trip, which included some tips she'd received from M&C’s seasoned INTA attendees...
It'll be your first time attending INTA, what are you most looking forward to?
Meeting people in person. There are so many people overseas (including M&C colleagues), who I have worked with for years and only “met” via email. I’ll be meeting at least two people for the first time that I’ve “known” for well over a decade! I can’t wait to be able to sit down with these contacts and actually get to know them personally, rather than discussing specification amendments and disclaimer requirements.
What makes INTA different to other events?
The sheer size of it. More than 10,000 people from around the world all heading to one city, to connect with people who understand what they do for a living (many people don’t!). It really is the key event of the year for trade marks.
Have you been given any tips by your colleagues?!
I’m taking down every tip offered. Wear comfortable shoes. Don’t overcommit to meeting after meeting after meeting – remember to build in some downtime. Carry a battery pack. Make sure you know what the person you’re meeting looks like, as you may need to find them in a sea of faces. Don’t forget to eat!
The fabulously organised Robecca Davey has also shared some great planning/organising tips for whilst I’m on the ground, which I never would have thought of, and will definitely use.
