Overview & Expertise

Chris Martin is an Associate and a Chartered UK and European Patent Attorney based in Marks & Clerk’s Glasgow office. His practice covers a broad range of technologies, including electronic and electrical engineering, medical devices, semiconductor fabrication, imaging, robotics and energy-related technologies.

He advises on drafting and prosecution of patent applications and registered designs, as well as due diligence, freedom to operate analysis and strategic management of intellectual property. His experience supports clients across the full IP lifecycle, from initial protection through to risk management and enforcement considerations.

Chris holds an MEng in Electronic and Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Electronics and Nanoscale Engineering from the University of Glasgow. His doctoral research focused on implantable biodegradable electronics for nerve repair, including circuit design and semiconductor fabrication, and he completed industrial placements at Texas Instruments working on power management integrated circuits.

Before entering the patent profession, he worked as a Research Associate developing biosensor technologies, combining electronic circuit design with semiconductor device fabrication. This background enables him to engage effectively with complex multidisciplinary innovations.
