Patent services

Identifying

We help you identify valuable IP assets by tailoring clear IP capture protocols for you to use in your business.

Protecting

Getting the right protection in the right markets, aligned with your business plan and budget, is central to our approach. We make sure you’re briefed and in control so that you can decide how best to invest in your IP protection. We will:

  • advise on whether a new invention can be patented
  • provide novelty and infringement searches
  • draft patents and manage applications through to grant.

Defending

There are lots of different ways to defend your patents, including low-cost and no-cost strategies. We can:

  • advise on issues such as amendment, validity and infringement
  • consider designing around third party rights to avoid infringement
  • bring and defend actions relating to the infringement and revocation of patents
  • contest inventorship or the entitlement to grant
  • help you police your patent rights to ensure that they are not infringed.

When going through the courts is unavoidable, we’ll bring in one of our IP litigators. This specialist team works with individuals and multinational corporations, handling cases from the simple to the super-complex.

Managing

We take care of all the reminders, deadlines and renewals involved in securing patents and managing them. Our systems are ISO 9001 quality-assured so you can be confident about leaving the admin with us. We can:

  • advise on the best protection strategy for an invention and then manage its implementation worldwide according to your budget
  • help design internal systems for the most efficient and effective management of the IP arising from your innovation processes
  • provide internal training programmes to ensure that you are getting the maximum IP return from your R&D investment.

Maximising value

Patents are not just for defending marketing share and competitive advantage. They can generate revenue and raise the value of your business. We can:

  • review your existing portfolio of rights and offer advice on its strengths and weaknesses
  • review competitor and sector activity worldwide and help you plan your IP strategy accordingly
  • advise on the many different ways of leveraging your IP rights, including licensing
  • assist with the transfer of your rights or the acquisition of third-party rights.
