Climate Change & Intellectual Property

Insights
Experts

The year 2021 is widely regarded as a "make or break year" to confront the global climate emergency, as the window of opportunity to remain under 1.5C is diminishing.

To learn more about how we work with our clients to combat the effects of climate change, or to find out how we can support your business needs, please email cop26@marks-clerk.com.

What is COP26?

For nearly 30 years, world governments have been meeting together every year to create a unified response to the climate change emergency. Under the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), all countries in the world are bound by an agreement to “avoid dangerous climate change”, and to find ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This year is the 26th anniversary of the climate summit, postponed for a year due to Covid-19; it will be hosted by the UK in Glasgow and attended by 120 world leaders. Around 25,000 delegates are also expected to attend.

Why is IP relevant?

IP rights play a huge role in the development of sustainable practices and green technology. Developing partnerships to support this development is key to business maintaining a competitive edge in the race to tackle climate change. As a leading, global voice on Intellectual Property, we are delighted t-o bring you insights throughout the climate change summit in Glasgow from specialists within Food & Drink, Financial Services, Chemistry, Energy & Environment and Digital Transformation.
