Robert's practice focuses on trademark portfolio management, including clearance, prosecution, enforcement, licensing, and transactions. He also practices in the areas of copyright and digital media, as well as regulatory, advertising, and marketing law.
Robert holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Queensland and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Australian National University. Robert is admitted to practice law before the Supreme Court of Queensland and was called to the Ontario Bar following completion of the National Committee on Accreditation Canadian equivalency examinations.
Robert has extensive prior experience in management of large trademark portfolios, having been involved in securing and managing IP rights locally and abroad for well-known Canadian businesses in the food, fashion and asset management sectors. As a result of his years of trademark experience, Robert is able to navigate complex trademark matters, and distill them to their essence, providing clients with incisive and practical advice.
Prior to joining Marks & Clerk, Robert clerked at boutique IP firms in Canada and overseas for over a decade, specializing in trademark portfolio management.
Robert is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, IPIC and INTA. Robert has written a series of articles for the Marks & Clerk website, including the “On Your Marks” series highlighting decisions and developments in trademark law and practice from the Trademarks Opposition Board.
