Overview & Expertise

Rhyan Probert is based in Cambridge and is a Chartered (UK) and European Patent Attorney and UPC Representative. He entered the patent profession in 2002 and joined Marks & Clerk in 2006.

He specialises in electrical propulsion technologies, particularly within the automotive and aerospace sectors. His technical expertise includes electric motors, with a focus on axial flux machines, as well as controller and inverter design. He also works across general electronics, control systems, green technology and mechanical devices, enabling him to advise clients developing complex, cross-disciplinary technologies.

Rhyan has extensive experience in drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications in the UK, Europe, the USA and Asia. He also provides opinions on patentability and freedom to operate, helping clients to assess risk and make informed commercial decisions.

He holds a first class BEng (Hons) degree in Electronic Engineering from Cardiff University and previously worked as a research engineer in Marconi’s Optical Networks division.
