Overview & Expertise

Nick Jones is a Senior Associate and Chartered (UK) and European Patent Attorney based in the Birmingham office. He is also a UPC Representative. He has worked in the patent profession since 2008.

Nick’s practice focuses on telecoms, software and electronics. He also has experience across a range of related technologies, including data networks, medical devices, renewable energy and autonomous vehicles. This breadth enables him to provide commercially relevant advice across interconnected and rapidly evolving sectors.

He advises on the drafting and prosecution of patent applications through to grant and has represented clients before the European Patent Office in oral proceedings during both examination and post-grant opposition. His work frequently involves coordinating protection across multiple jurisdictions, working closely with associate firms in the USA, China, Japan and South Korea. He also advises on freedom-to-operate and patent validity matters, helping clients assess risk and support strategic decision-making.

Prior to joining Marks & Clerk in 2023, Nick worked at the London offices of various international IP law firms. He holds an MPhys in Physics from the University of Warwick and speaks English and Welsh.
