Nick is a Chartered (UK) and European Patent Attorney with extensive experience of drafting and prosecuting patent applications across a wide range of technologies.
The focus of Nick's work is in the fields of telecoms, software and electronics although he has experience of various technological areas such as data networks, medical devices, renewable energy and autonomous vehicles.
Nick is experienced in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications through to grant and he has successfully represented clients at the EPO in oral proceedings during examination and during post-grant opposition proceedings. In addition to the patent systems of the UK and Europe, Nick is familiar with jurisdictions around the world having worked closely with associates based in the USA, China, Japan and South Korea to obtain patent protection. Nick has advised clients of all sizes from lone inventors to startups, SMEs and multinational corporations and he has also advised clients in freedom-to-operate and patent validity matters.
Prior to joining the Birmingham office of Marks & Clerk in 2023, Nick worked at the London offices of various other leading international IP law firms. Nick entered the patent profession in 2008 having graduated from the University of Warwick with a Master's degree in Physics.
