Mash‑Hud Iqbal is an experienced intellectual property strategist, supporting multinational technology companies, leading universities, research centres and SMEs in translating complex engineering into commercially valuable IP. With nearly two decades in the patent profession, he combines technical expertise, strategic insight and a pragmatic, solutions‑focused approach that has earned him the trust of clients across a wide range of industries.
His practice is based on a strong technical background in power semiconductor devices, solid-state electronics, and sensor technologies, supported by a PhD from a leading research group at the University of Cambridge. He has extensive experience advising on power electronics, advanced semiconductors, sensing systems, EV and solar platforms, and enjoys working closely with engineers and inventors to develop effective and commercially aligned patent strategies.
Building on this foundation, Mash‑Hud has developed a broad practice spanning IoT systems, data infrastructure, AI‑driven IT operations, network automation, switching, connected security, smart power management and software‑implemented technologies, with a particular focus on AI, advanced computing and quantum technologies. He regularly works with international teams managing large global portfolios and is interested in developing scalable IP frameworks — from invention harvesting through to long-term portfolio optimisation — to support clients in maximising the value of their innovation.
Mash‑Hud has experience in EPO proceedings, including oppositions and appeals, and has contributed to matters involving hearings before the EPO. He is also involved in complex Freedom‑to‑Operate and due diligence projects, with experience across the full patent lifecycle, from drafting and prosecution through to enforcement, defence and transactions.
An important aspect of Mash‑Hud’s approach is his close integration with in‑house teams and commercial decision‑making. Having led and delivered in‑house IP support functions for global organisations, he has a good appreciation of the competing demands faced by global businesses — from budget constraints to strategic priorities.
He also has experience at the intersection of IP strategy and commercial transactions, including supporting standard essential patent (SEP) licensing strategies and contributing to the carve‑out of a business unit within a multinational company, where he was involved in IP structuring and multi‑party licensing discussions. These experiences provide him with a practical understanding of how IP can support value creation and competitive positioning.
Known for his collaborative and bespoke style, Mash‑Hud builds long-standing relationships based on trust, responsiveness and dedication to client service. He is recognised as an IP Star (2017–2024) and an IAM Recommended Individual (2024–2025).
