Overview & Expertise

Liam is an Associate based in Manchester and a Chartered (UK) and European Patent Attorney. He specialises in patent matters across a wide range of chemical and life sciences technologies, with particular expertise in pharmaceuticals, therapeutics, diagnostics, medical and surgical devices, and formulation chemistry.

He advises clients ranging from early-stage start-ups and universities to multinational corporations, supporting them in developing and managing their IP portfolios. His work includes drafting patent applications and handling global prosecution, as well as conducting freedom to operate analyses to advise on potential infringement risks. He also provides IP audits to support organisations in preparing for investment.

Liam has experience in opposing and defending patents before the European Patent Office and Boards of Appeal, and has also worked on revocation and infringement matters before the Unified Patent Court (UPC). His practice provides clients with clear, practical guidance across the patent lifecycle.

He has a strong technical interest in technologies at the chemistry-biology interface. Liam holds an MChem from the University of Oxford (2012) and a DPhil in Radiation Oncology and Chemistry (2016). He joined Marks & Clerk in 2016.
