Overview & Expertise

James is a Trainee Patent Attorney in the Software & Electronics team at Marks & Clerk, based in Birmingham. He works on drafting and prosecuting patent applications, with a focus on medical devices, mechanical engineering, and electronics technologies. He has experience supporting international patent prosecution, including in Europe and the United States, as well as assisting with freedom-to-operate analyses.

He has worked with a range of clients, from multinational organisations to SMEs and individual inventors, providing practical support tailored to different commercial contexts.

James holds a first class MSci in Physics from the University of Birmingham (2024). His academic work included research into the flow of suspensions using positron emission particle tracking (PEPT), and a project focused on simulating and optimising parameters for a quantum squeezing device.
