Overview & Expertise

Susan is a Partner, Chartered (UK) and European Patent Attorney and UPC Representative based in the Oxford office. She advises on all aspects of patent practice, including drafting, UK and European Patent Office prosecution, portfolio management, oral proceedings, and freedom‑to‑operate reviews, supporting clients across a broad range of technical sectors.

Her work spans advanced manufacturing, spectroscopy, optical imaging, electronics, renewable energy, heavy engineering and additive manufacturing. Susan also has extensive experience advising on registered designs, including filings at the UKIPO and EUIPO, and supporting clients in using design rights alongside patents and trade marks as part of broader IP strategies.

Susan joined the IP profession in 2013, following a career in product management and technology services. She joined Marks & Clerk in 2015, qualified as a Chartered and European Patent Attorney in 2017, and became a Partner in 2024.

She holds a degree in Chemistry with Oceanography from the University of Southampton and has a particular interest in ocean energy. She contributes to a range of professional and inclusion initiatives and regularly supports outreach and education activities.
