He also provides assistance with trademark clearance, trademark prosecution, and trademark infringement. He has assisted a variety of clients ranging from start ups, scale ups and multinationals, and in a wide range of industries including tech, software, finance, restaurants, manufacturing, clothing, retail, tech, fitness, health, consulting, and social media.
Avery is the co-chair of the IP Transactions subcommittee for the Canadian Bar Association’s IP Committee and is on the IPIC Internet and Technology committee. He previously volunteered as duty counsel with the Artists’ Legal Advice Services (ALAS) who provide artists and creators with free legal advice. He previously co-authored a chapter on distinctiveness for the Canadian Trademark Law Benchbook.
Prior to joining Marks & Clerk, Avery obtained his law degree in Ontario with an area of concentration in Intellectual Property, Information and Technology Law before working at a boutique IP law firm and a full-service law firm to help grow their IP practice.
