It will come as no surprise that we still get excited when the world of intellectual property rides high in the headlines for all the right reasons. It was hard to miss the recent coverage of Ed Sheeran's resounding victory in the High Court yesterday, and we were delighted to have been asked to contribute our expertise to outlets from Reuters to Sky, in Ottawa to India and everywhere in between. Below is a snapshot from partner, Mike Gilbert on Sky News who is reinforcing the point we've known all along - Ed Sheeran really is one of the good guys.
Mike Gilbert, a partner at Marks & Clerk, a leading global intellectual property firm, said the judge's verdict did not come as a surprise, and "draws a clear line in the sand" for small artists considering bringing similar claims to court. "The truth is, big artists are all too aware of the obligations they're under to pay credit where credit's due, and in the case of Ed Sheeran, are more than willing to acknowledge contributions where relevant."
