Wendell possesses a strong academic foundation, having earned a BSc (Hons) in Applied Chemistry and a PhD in Bioinorganic Chemistry from City University of Hong Kong. His doctoral research, which centred on developing and utilising phosphorescent inorganic complexes as cellular imaging reagents and probes for biomolecules, underscores his expertise in advanced chemical and materials science applications.
Since joining Marks & Clerk in 2017, Wendell has supported on a wide range of patent matters, providing his expertise on inventions spanning chemistry, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, materials science, and mechanical engineering. His substantial technical knowledge and research skills empower him to navigate complex patent landscapes, making him a valuable asset for clients seeking to protect their innovations.
Before joining Marks & Clerk, Wendell served as a Lead Chemist in the research division of Rohm and Haas Electronic Materials Asia Ltd, now a part of DuPont de Nemours, Inc.. His work there focused on researching electrolytes for electroless plating and electroplating, further enriching his practical experience in chemical and materials science applications.
In addition to his work in patent strategy, Wendell provides guidance to clients worldwide on securing Plant Variety Rights (PVR) for new plant varieties. His careful and considered approach ensures that each step is managed with attention in support of the client's innovation.
