Overview & Expertise

Tom Gregory is a Chartered Patent Attorney (UK) and a European Patent Attorney based in Marks & Clerk’s Manchester office. He has extensive experience in patent drafting and prosecution before the UK IPO and EPO. His work is commercially focused, incorporating considerations such as target products, competitor activity, and standards alignment to help ensure IP strategies support broader business objectives.

Tom’s practice centres on electronics and software inventions. He has particular expertise in telecommunications, including 3GPP standards and Standard Essential Patents (SEPs), artificial intelligence and machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT), medical devices, and extended and virtual reality technologies, as well as broad experience across inventions in engineering.

His technical breadth is underpinned by a first class Master’s degree in Physics from the University of Manchester. He works with a wide range of clients, including multinational companies, universities, start-ups and SMEs. He regularly supports in-house IP teams with the development and management of high-value patent portfolios, providing clear and practical guidance.
