Tom is a Chartered (UK) and European Patent Attorney with an electronics and software focus.
Tom has over seven years’ experience in drafting and prosecution of patent applications before the UK Intellectual Property Office, European Patent Office, and beyond. In particular, he is highly proficient in patent drafting, having prepared over 100 patent specifications. Tom has experience working with in-house IP departments and inventors on large drafting projects and in rapidly building valuable IP portfolios. In a number of instances, he has worked with target products and regulation compliance in-mind.
He also provides advice on infringement and validity of patents, alongside strategies for monitoring competitor activity and conducting effective patent landscape searching.
Tom enjoys working with a broad range of clients - from multinational companies, to universities, start-ups and SMEs. He aims to provide tailored advice, and believes in being highly adaptable to suit client needs.
He has experience in patent matters across a wide range of technical fields. This includes electronics and software-based inventions, for example in fields of signal processing, telecommunications, Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, and display apparatus. He has also worked in engineering fields, including semiconductor manufacture, and packaging.
Tom holds a first class Master’s degree in Physics from the University of Manchester. During this time, he enjoyed modules in analogue and digital electronics, solid-state and semiconductor physics, and computer programming.
