Stephen is a Chartered (UK) and European Patent Attorney based out of Marks & Clerk’s Glasgow and Edinburgh offices and is also a Chartered Engineer. He joined the firm in 2021, bringing over 11 years prior experience in the defence industry as a hardware and systems engineer at Leonardo.
In industry, Stephen was involved in the development, testing and delivery of complex surveillance and fire-control radar systems, working with clients across the UK, Europe and the US. This background underpins his ability to provide practical advice on complex defence related engineering technologies.
His practice covers a range of patent and design matters across electronics, semiconductors, electrical and mechanical engineering, as well as oil and gas and renewable technologies. His experience in these areas enables him to provide clear, technically grounded advice to clients operating in engineering-led sectors.
Stephen holds a first-class Master’s degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh, and his final year Master’s project involved developing a low cost, mmWave radar based altitude and attitude sensing system for safely landing RAF chinook helicopters in brownout conditions. He has also delivered IP training and awareness sessions to organisations ranging from universities and SMEs to larger national businesses.
