Sophia is a Trainee Patent Attorney in Marks & Clerk's Chemistry team and based in the Manchester office. She supports clients in the chemical, clean technology and medical technology sectors with the drafting and prosecution of patent applications.
Her work includes prosecuting patent applications both in the UK and internationally, and she has particular experience handling inventions relating to food processing equipment, biomaterials, recycling technologies, and polymeric materials.
Sophia assists a diverse range of clients, including start-ups, universities, research institutions and multinational companies, by helping them build patent portfolios that reflect their innovations and align with their commercial goals.
Sophia obtained a PhD at The University of Manchester, based at the Henry Royce Institute, where her research focussed on developing visible light-curable inks for 3D bioprinting soft tissues. Sophia also holds a First-Class MChem degree in Chemistry from the University of Sheffield and completed a funded studentship at the Quadram Institute, where she contributed to research on nutrient digestion in dairy products using semi-dynamic gastric digestion models.
