Sophia joined the Manchester office in September 2024 as a Trainee Patent Attorney.
Prior to joining the patent profession, Sophia obtained a PhD at The University of Manchester based at the Henry Royce Institute. Her research focused on developing biocompatible inks for the 3D bioprinting of cartilage tissue with stem cells.
Sophia also holds a first class honours degree in Chemistry (MChem) from The University of Sheffield. In her final year, she investigated using pigment molecules to create plasmon–exciton coupling with gold nanostructures. During her studies, Sophia undertook a funded studentship at the Quadram Institute Bioscience in Norwich, where she assisted in researching the nutrient digestion of dairy products using gastric digestion models.
