Overview & Experience

Sophia is a Trainee Patent Attorney in Marks & Clerk’s Chemistry team, based in the Manchester office. She works with clients in the chemical, clean technology and medical technology sectors, supporting the drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the UK and internationally.

Her experience includes handling inventions relating to waste material valorisation, recycling technologies, wastewater treatment, foundry products, biomaterials and polymeric materials. Through this work, she helps clients secure protection that reflects both the technical detail of their innovations and their wider commercial objectives.

Sophia works with a broad range of clients, including start-ups, universities, research institutions and multinational companies, assisting them in developing patent portfolios aligned to their research and business strategies.

She holds a PhD in Advanced Biomedical Materials from the University of Manchester (2024), where her research at the Henry Royce Institute focused on visible light-curable inks for 3D bioprinting of soft tissues. She also holds a First Class MChem in Chemistry from the University of Sheffield (2019), and completed a funded studentship at the Quadram Institute, contributing to research on nutrient digestion in dairy products using gastric digestion models.
