Shuwei specialises in all aspects of Chinese and international patent and design prosecution, with a career built advising multinational corporations, Fortune 500 companies, universities and start-ups on complex intellectual property strategies across multiple jurisdictions. His practice spans the full lifecycle of patent work, from drafting and prosecution through to freedom-to-operate analysis, infringement and invalidation proceedings, and cross-border patent transactions.

He is particularly skilled at designing bespoke filing and prosecution strategies tailored to clients' commercial objectives and brings deep technical knowhow across electrical and electronic engineering, telecommunications, semiconductor technology, artificial intelligence, autonomous driving and wireless electric vehicle charging. Prior to joining Marks & Clerk, Shuwei worked at a leading law firm in Hong Kong and at a leading PRC IP agency in Shanghai, giving him grounding in both the Common and Continental legal systems. He is also one of very few patent attorneys in Hong Kong able to handle German-language patent matters, a distinctive capability for clients with German-language portfolios.

Shuwei has been recognised as a leading individual for patent prosecution in Hong Kong by IAM Patent 1000 every year from 2019 to 2026, with the directory commending his expertise and local knowledge as critical to maintaining client relationships across the region.

Shuwei holds an M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering & IT from the Technical University of Munich, supported by a DAAD scholarship, and an M.Eng. in Signal & Information Processing from Tongji University, Shanghai. He is a qualified China Patent Attorney and holds the China Legal Professional Qualification.

He is a native Chinese speaker and fluent in English and German and regularly speaks at client seminars and contributes to leading industry publications including Managing IP, Bloomberg BNA and Asia IP.
