Shannon is a Principal and senior trademark agent in Marks & Clerk’s Ottawa office, and she is a member of the trademarks group. Her practice focuses on clearance and prosecution of trademark applications in Canada and internationally and advising clients on global brand protection.
Shannon has over 20 years of expertise advising clients on brand and trademark protection strategies, having started her career at Marks & Clerk in 2002 as a student and eventually training and qualifying as a registered trademark agent in 2006.
Shannon advises clients in a range of industries, including the automotive, electronics, and chemical industries and her practice focusses on trademark prosecution, opposition and cancellation proceedings, as well as national and global portfolio management and clearance work. Clients appreciate her strategic approach and practical advice on complex issues to help them navigate and overcome challenges in brand protection.
She is currently a member of several legal and IP industry associations, including Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), International Trade Marks Association (INTA), American Intellectual Property Association (AIPLA), and Chiefs in Intellectual Property (ChIPs). Shannon has been recognized in the 2024 and 2025 World Trademark 1000 rankings as a leading trademark professional for prosecution and strategy in Canada.
Shannon graduated from Laurentian University in 2001 with an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature and subsequently obtained a degree in Education from the University of Ottawa, graduating in 2002. Shannon became a registered Trademark Agent in 2006, receiving the Educational Foundation Prize from the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada ("IPIC") for achieving the highest mark on the Trademark Agency Qualifying Examinations.
