Robbie Gauld is an Associate and Chartered (UK) and European Patent Attorney based in Aberdeen. He has experience supporting innovation across engineering, the energy sector and medical technology, and works closely with inventors, R&D teams and in-house counsel to protect new developments and build effective IP portfolios.
A significant part of his practice focuses on energy sector innovation, advising on patent drafting, filing strategies and portfolio management. He also has extensive experience in contentious patent matters, regularly representing clients in opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office and supporting litigation teams in disputes across medical devices, automotive systems and energy technologies, including matters involving the Unified Patent Court.
Robbie advises on freedom to operate, infringement and validity, helping clients to assess and manage IP risk and align their IP strategy with commercial objectives.
He holds a first-class MEng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, where his studies included research projects in shale gas extraction and additive manufacturing.
