Overview & Expertise 

Rachel Chen is an articling student in the Toronto office of Marks & Clerk. She is a member of the Patent group, and her practice focuses on patent drafting and prosecution.

Rachel provides legal and patent-related expertise to a wide range of clients. This includes drafting and prosecuting applications in areas such as artificial intelligence, and data and connectivity.

With a background in forensic engineering, Rachel has conducted technical research, investigated engineering evidence, and prepared reports for legal and insurance matters. Her experience translating complex engineering concepts into clear, precise written analyses strengthened her analytical reasoning, technical writing, and attention to detail—skills that continue to inform her legal practice in intellectual property.

Rachel completed her B.Sc. in Statistics and Mathematics and her J.D. at the University of Toronto. During law school, she served as the Senior News Editor at Ultra Vires, an Associate Researcher with the Future of Law Lab, and a member in the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Externship at the Hatchery.

Rachel spent the previous summer at Marks & Clerk as a summer student. Outside of work, she enjoys making music, teaching classical piano, learning languages, and going down rabbit holes on the latest technology.

Rachel is conversationally fluent in Mandarin and Spanish.
