Overview & Expertise

Philip Bennett is a Principal in Marks & Clerk’s London office and a Chartered (UK) and European Patent Attorney, as well as a UPC Representative.

Philip’s experience covers a wide variety of fields, including pharmaceutical products, medical products and devices, polymers, composites, chemical processes and food ingredients. He has considerable experience in the filing and prosecution of patent applications worldwide, particularly in Europe and the UK, and has experience in attacking patents, both through Opposition proceedings at the European Patent Office and the filing of third party observations worldwide. Philip has additionally worked on a number of freedom-to-operate projects and opinions.

Philip’s technical background helps him provide clear and practical guidance in complex scientific fields. Before joining Marks & Clerk, he completed a DPhil in Organic Chemistry at the University of Oxford. His research focused on the synthesis of organic dyes with non-linear optical properties, including investigations into toxicity in an in vitro cell environment and potential applications in photodynamic cancer therapy and the light-activated release of neurotransmitters.

His qualifications include a DPhil in Organic Chemistry from the University of Oxford, an MSc in Nanoscience from the University of Nottingham and a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry from the University of Nottingham.
