Peter is a Partner based in Manchester with more than 30 years of experience in the patent profession. He is a European Patent Attorney, Chartered Patent Attorney (UK), and UPC Representative. His practice covers all aspects of patent work, including drafting and prosecution, advising on infringement and validity, EPO oppositions and appeals, and portfolio management. His technical experience spans lithography, software, electromechanical and electrical systems, optics, and broader engineering technologies.
He leads Marks & Clerk UK’s electronics and engineering attorney groups, with responsibility for ensuring clients are supported by attorneys with the appropriate technical expertise and experience. He also leads an international group specialising in patent and design work for Chinese clients, coordinating expertise across multiple offices.
Peter has extensive experience managing attorney teams for large, international clients, and previously worked in-house at ASML Netherlands B.V. This experience informs his understanding of the role of IP teams within commercial organisations, enabling him to provide practical, business-focused guidance.
He holds a first class degree in Physics from the University of Birmingham and a PhD from the University of St Andrews, sponsored by BT Group, focused on laser optics and semiconductor waveguide structures for telecommunications applications.
