Simon Mounteney is Managing Partner for Europe and a Chartered (UK) and European Patent Attorney, as well as a UPC Representative, based in Marks & Clerk's London office. He has over 30 years' experience advising on intellectual property matters across a wide range of technologies, with notable experience in optical and electro-optical devices, display technology, batteries, power generation systems, semiconductor device fabrication, control systems, communication systems, automotive systems and various types of mechanical engineering.
His practice covers paten drafting, prosecution and strategic portfolio management, with particular experience supporting multinational filing programmes. He represents clients before the UK Intellectual Property Office and the European Patent Office, including in opposition and appeal proceedings. He works with both established businesses and start-ups advising on how to structure and develop intellectual property to support commercial objectives, including investment and revenue generation. Simon has also written widely on various aspects of IP and discussed both the law and economics of IP on television.
Simon has a particularly strong practice among Asian clients and heads up the firm's Korean business team. He holds a BSc in Physics with Mathematics from the University of Reading and trained with Marks & Clerk, becoming a Partner in 1996.
