Amy is an Associate based in Marks & Clerk’s Manchester office and a Chartered (UK) and European Patent Attorney. Her practice focuses primarily on mechanical technologies, with particular expertise in turbomachinery, automotive systems, printing, packaging and labelling, manufacturing, power tools, oil and gas, and food and beverage sectors, as well as general mechanical engineering.
She has extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications before the UK Intellectual Property Office and the European Patent Office (EPO), and regularly manages global prosecution strategies, particularly in jurisdictions such as the US, China, and India. Amy additionally has experience of Oppositions and Appeals before the EPO.
Amy has experience of advising on freedom to operate matters; utility models; and multi-case filing strategies. Beyond patents, she is also a specialist in industrial designs, with experience of filing UK and EU registered designs as well as foreign prosecution, including the US and China. Amy works closely with clients to develop robust design strategies that complement co-pending patent and utility model applications.
Amy joined Marks & Clerk in 2018 after graduating with First Class Honours in Mechanical Engineering from Durham University, where she was awarded the IMechE Frederic Barnes Waldron Prize for achieving the highest academic mark. Her studies included a year abroad at the University of Melbourne, and her final year research focused on the flow and stability of thin films.
