Overview & Expertise

Mike Street is a Principal in Marks & Clerk’s Glasgow office and a Chartered UK and European Patent Attorney and UPC Representative. He advises on securing patent protection across the UK, Europe, the US and other international jurisdictions.

His practice spans a range of technologies, including photonics, lasers, optical sensors and imaging systems, electronics and computer-implemented inventions. He works with clients across multiple sectors, including medical devices, communications, defence, oil and gas and renewable energy. His experience in these areas helps clients obtain robust and commercially relevant protection for complex technologies.

Mike has represented clients in oral proceedings before the Examining and Opposition Divisions and the Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office, and advises on UK patent infringement matters.

Before entering the patent profession in 2006, he co-founded a start-up developing optical switching devices, and previously worked as a Senior Device Development Engineer and postdoctoral researcher in high-speed semiconductor lasers. He holds an MEng from Imperial College and a PhD from the University of Glasgow.
