Maria is a lawyer, Canadian and U.S. patent agent, and engineer. She is based out of Marks & Clerk’s Toronto office and her practice focuses on patent, design, and licensing matters for a wide range of clients. Maria provides strategic counsel and intellectual property protection strategies that align with commercial goals to help clients succeed.
Maria has extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent and design applications and managing complex global IP portfolios. She specializes in electrical and software-related technologies, including electromagnetic applications, robotics, autonomous vehicles, medical imaging, medical devices, and consumer products. Passionate about supporting startups and innovators, Maria is especially dedicated to helping companies advancing the low-carbon economy protect their intellectual property, and to strengthening the Golden Horseshoe business community in Ontario.
Before joining Marks & Clerk, Maria practiced at a leading Canadian intellectual property law firm. She brings a solid foundation in engineering, drawing on her industry experience in the nuclear and electricity sectors to provide practical insights and robust IP protection for clients with technical innovations. Maria also enjoys supporting colleagues and engaging in work to advance equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives in the legal profession.
