Overview & Expertise

Jiwon Park is an Associate in Marks & Clerk’s Life Sciences team, based in the Edinburgh office. She joined the firm in 2021 and qualified as a UK Chartered Patent Attorney in 2025. She works with a range of clients, including start-ups, SMEs and universities.

Her practice focuses on advising on patent strategy, drafting and prosecuting patent applications, and providing patentability and freedom-to-operate opinions. With a background in molecular biology, Jiwon works across a broad spectrum of life sciences technologies, including diagnostics, peptide-based therapies and vaccines, immunotherapies, bacteriophage-based technologies, nucleic acid therapeutics, sequencing technologies and AgriTech. She also assists clients in obtaining Plant Breeders’ Rights.

Jiwon holds a PhD in Precision Medicine from the University of Edinburgh, where her research focused on cell signalling pathways involved in mechanotransduction. She also holds a first class honours degree in Biomedical Sciences with a specialisation in Pharmacology from the same university.

During her doctoral studies, Jiwon undertook an internship with a university technology transfer office, where she gained experience in evaluating invention disclosures, conducting prior art searches and assessing commercial opportunities. This experience supports her ability to provide practical, commercially aware IP advice.
