Overview & Expertise

Helen is a Trainee Patent Attorney in Marks & Clerk's Chemistry team, based in London. She supports clients across the healthcare, advanced materials, and food technology sectors, helping them protect their intellectual property worldwide.

She has experience prosecuting patent applications before major national and regional patent offices, including regularly before the European Patent Office and the US Patent and Trademark Office. Her work also includes drafting patent applications, preparing submissions for opposition proceedings, and assisting in the recordals of transfers of patent rights.

Her technical background allows her to work on a range of technologies. With respect to the food technology sector, Helen has particular experience with novel nutraceuticals and advances in food processing methods. Within the advanced materials sector, she is developing expertise in the material processing of polymers, as well as semiconductor devices.

Helen is also part of the firm's team responsible for monitoring and analysing the emerging case law of the Unitary Patent Court, providing informed updates to clients and beyond on developments in this rapidly evolving area.

Helen is UK Foundation-qualified and was awarded the Moss Prize for obtaining the highest aggregate mark in the UK Patent Law and International Patent Law exams.

She holds a First Class integrated Master’s degree in Natural Sciences (Chemistry and Biology) from Durham University, where she specialised in supramolecular chemistry and conducted research on gel-phase crystallisation of pharmaceutical solids.
