Gavin Jones is a Senior Associate based in the Manchester office of Marks & Clerk. He has over ten years of experience advising on all aspects of patent law, including the preparation and prosecution of European, UK and international patent applications, and advising on infringement and validity. He has represented clients in examination, opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office.
Gavin has a background in physics and works across a broad range of technologies spanning optics, mechanical engineering and electronics. His experience includes lithography, laser and display technologies, semiconductor fabrication, imaging systems, sensors, gyroscopes, construction technologies, security systems and mechanical devices. This breadth enables him to provide clear, practical guidance across diverse innovation portfolios. He advises a wide range of clients in the UK and internationally, including individuals, start-ups, SMEs, universities, spin-outs and multinational corporates, supporting both early-stage innovation and established portfolios. Gavin joined Marks & Clerk in 2015 after graduating from the University of Liverpool with a First Class MPhys in Physics (2014). He qualified as a European Patent Attorney in 2019 and as a Chartered Patent Attorney (UK) in 2020. He is also a UPC Representative.
