Caitlin is an Associate who advises clients on a wide range of IP matters with a primary focus on patent disputes. Caitlin joined the team as a paralegal in 2019 before qualifying in the first cohort of the new Solicitor Qualifying Exam (SQE) to become a solicitor with the firm in 2022.

Caitlin gained her knowledge of patents whilst working for another leading IP litigation firm and has been able to further expand her understanding of the technical and commercial worlds whilst working at Marks & Clerk Law. She has recent experience in large scale patent disputes and design rights cases as well as litigation at the High Court and Court of Appeal. 

Outside of work and study, Caitlin is a Freeman of the City of London and was a national and international synchronised swimmer. Although retired from synchro she still enjoys swimming and various water sports, spending time with her family and painting.

Overstated confidence and oversimplified situation: Court rejects obviousness argument in favour of mirabegron patent

In two actions that were heard together, Teva and Sandoz (‘the Claimants’) sought revocation of Astellas’ patent EP (UK) 1 559 427 B1 (‘the Patent’). The judgment deals with the Claimants’ allegation that the patent is invalid due to obviousness over a piece of cited prior art and insufficiency run as a ‘squeeze’ against obviousness.
