Overview & Experience

Dafydd Bevan is a Partner and Solicitor based in the London office of Marks & Clerk. He advises clients on the enforcement and commercialisation of intellectual property and has been qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales since 2005. He trained at a major City firm, where he practised for nearly five years after qualification, before joining Marks & Clerk in February 2010. He became a Partner in 2016.

Dafydd has particular experience advising on the litigation and licensing of TMT, electronics and software patents, regularly supporting clients in proceedings before the High Court and Court of Appeal. His work covers technologies including software, broadcasting, graphical user interfaces, mobile telephony, network communications and internet applications. He also advises on FRAND and SEP licensing issues and related litigation. His broader patent litigation experience includes oil and gas machinery, wellbore technology, shale shakers and a range of mechanical technologies from household equipment to industrial machinery.

He has significant experience advising on the interaction between UK patent litigation and opposition proceedings before the European Patent Office, often working alongside Marks & Clerk patent attorneys on matters involving parallel proceedings. In addition, he advises on design litigation, including UK and EU registered and unregistered designs across sectors such as fashion products, furniture, fitness accessories, packaging and camping equipment. He also advises on trade mark, copyright and confidential information disputes.

Alongside his disputes practice, Dafydd advises on licensing and commercialisation strategies, IP due diligence, R&D collaboration agreements, sponsorship arrangements, employee IP issues and the IP aspects of corporate transactions. His experience helps clients navigate both contentious and transactional IP matters with a clear understanding of the associated legal and commercial considerations. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law and Practice from the University of Bristol and an LLB in

Law with French Law from University College London. Dafydd speaks English, French and Welsh fluently and is able to advise clients in each of these languages.
