Overview & Expertise

Andrew Tiberia is a Trainee Patent Attorney based in Edinburgh and Glasgow. He joined Marks & Clerk in 2023 and is working towards qualification as a UK and European Patent Attorney.

Andrew holds a first-class honours degree in Chemistry from the University of York and a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Edinburgh, where his research focused on asymmetric synthesis and the total synthesis of natural products. He has also gained industrial experience as both a synthetic chemist within a multinational agrichemical company and as a medicinal chemist at a contract research organisation, contributing to the design and synthesis of novel anti-malarial compounds.

His practice focuses on organic and medicinal chemistry, while also covering a broad range of chemical and life sciences technologies, including formulation chemistry, biochemistry, sustainable chemistry, diagnostics and targeted therapeutic modalities. He has supported clients including multinational corporations, start-ups, SMEs, universities and spin-outs across different stages of the patent lifecycle.

Andrew’s work includes drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the UK, Europe and internationally. He also assists with EPO oppositions, freedom to operate analyses and due diligence projects. In addition, he supports IP audits and contributes to the preparation and delivery of IP-related seminars.
