Ian Clark, Chris Hemingway and Daniel Poh discuss their upcoming trip to the AIPPI World Congress in Yokohama, Japan

With only a few days to go until the start of the AIPPI World Congress in Yokohoma, Japan, members of our global patents team Ian Clark from Canada, Chris Hemingway from Malaysia and Daniel Poh from Singapore share their thoughts on what they are most looking forward to as they  head out to Japan. 

The AIPPI World Congress conference is taking place in September in Yokohama, Japan. What are you most looking forward to at the conference? 

Ian Clark, Canada: 

My colleagues and I from the Canadian  offices of Marks & Clerk are excited to visit Yokohama, Japan for the AIPPI conference.  Our office has a long history of excellent business relationships with the Japanese IP profession going back more than 5 decades.  While we are looking forward to meeting and having interesting discussions with friends, and new contacts, from around the world, I am particularly excited to reconnect with our Japanese friends on their home turf.  I’m sure they will excel in hosting the international IP community. 

Chris Hemingway, Malaysia 

Japan is one of the largest investors in Malaysia, and has always had a strong reputation in the field of intellectual property. I’m always impressed by the depth of knowledge and understanding that Japanese patent attorneys have, as evidenced by the profound queries I often receive after giving a presentation. At AIPPI in Yokohama I’m looking forward to meeting some old friends and maybe making some new ones and also catching up with my colleagues from Marks & Clerk’s offices around the world. 

Daniel Poh, Singapore 

Yes, it’s finally here! AIPPI events have provided excellent learning and networking opportunities, and I am extremely excited that this year, it will be held in the vibrant Yokohama! Like the rest of my colleagues, Marks & Clerk’s Singapore office has enjoyed long standing cooperation with many Japanese firms and corporations. Thus, besides the opportunity to learn and exchange knowledge at the Congress events (not to mention the great food!), the conference will no doubt provide a fantastic platform for me to reconnect with our Japanese friends, as well as friends from other parts of the world, and hopefully, make new ones. I cannot wait!
