Upasana qualified as a Singapore Registered Patent Attorney in 2007 and as a Chartered (UK) Patent Attorney in 2012. She specialises in patents and registered designs, and works with multi-disciplinary clients in the fields of chemical and process engineering, biopharmaceutical engineering, pharmaceutical, food, nano and clean technology and semiconductors. She has extensive local and foreign prosecution experience. Upasana's practice includes drafting and prosecuting patent applications, as well as advising on infringement, validity and patentability issues. Her clients include SMEs, MNCs, research and academic institutions. 

Upasana graduated with an honours degree in Chemical Engineering with a specialisation in biopharmaceutical engineering from the National University of Singapore in 2003. Later that year, she joined the firm Lloyd Wise which merged with Marks & Clerk at the end of 2007. Upasana completed the Graduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law in 2004, which is jointly conducted by the IP Academy of Singapore and the National University of Singapore, obtaining a distinction.

Upasana has consistently been listed as an expert by Who’s Who Legal and as “one of the leading minds in pharmaceutical and technological patents”. She has also been recognised as a leading patent professional in the IAM Patent 1000 guide since 2020, with the 2021 guide saying that she is “solutions-oriented” and “understands well the technical aspects of inventions and translates that well into patent language”.
