Anis is a Chartered UK Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney specialising in chemical, materials, pharmaceutical and medical device technologies.

He advises start-ups, universities, spin-outs, NHS trusts, SMEs and multinational corporations across a diverse range of technologies. His experience includes small-molecule therapeutics, cardiovascular devices, wound management, agritech, textiles, adhesives, wood fabrication and confectionery products.

Anis has extensive experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications worldwide and has a strong track record of securing commercially valuable patent protection for his clients' innovations.

A significant part of his practice involves advising on patent infringement and freedom-to-operate matters. He regularly manages complex, multi-jurisdictional freedom-to-operate projects and recognises the importance of balancing legal risk with commercial objectives. Anis frequently supports multinational companies in the lead-up to product launch, providing practical and timely freedom-to-operate guidance.

He is highly experienced in opposition proceedings before the European Patent Office, having successfully opposed and defended patents across multiple sectors.

Anis also has particular expertise in patent restoration matters across Europe. He has successfully restored commercially important patent rights in key jurisdictions and has developed a deep understanding of the restoration procedures across a broad range of territories.

He regularly delivers in-house IP training for his clients, often focussing on upskilling senior management, R&D departments and marketing teams. He has undertaken secondment-based projects focused on improving IP management processes and driving cost efficiencies. Anis is recognised for his ability to communicate complex legal and technical concepts in a clear and practical manner that resonates across different business functions.

Anis is a passionate advocate of the chemical, materials and life sciences start-up ecosystem across the UK. Anis regularly serves on judging panels for start-up accelerator programmes, including the LYVA Labs, Henry Royce Catalyst and Bruntwood SciTech accelerators as well as being a frequent guest speaker for Innovate UK.

Anis graduated from Imperial College London with a Master’s degree in Chemistry. He spent several years working as a medicinal chemist, focussing on small molecule inhibitors for treating neurodegenerative conditions, at GlaxoSmithKline prior to joining the patent attorney profession. Anis also practiced as a patent attorney in the Marks & Clerk Singapore office for a number of years.
