Kate conducts a wide range of patent work within physics, electronics, engineering and software in the UK and internationally, including in medtech, sensors, networking and communications technologies, signal processing, computer-implemented inventions and other technical sectors. She has particular expertise in the field of medical imaging, including the application of AI in medical imaging.
Prior to joining the patent profession in 2012, Kate worked for nearly a decade as an antenna scientist and engineer. She spent several years in the defence industry working on the conceptual design of novel radar antennas before moving to the telecommunications industry where she led a team designing mobile phone base station antennas.
She has an MSci in theoretical physics from the University of St Andrews and a PhD in high-energy particle physics from the University of Durham.
