Justin graduated from the University of Alberta with a Ph.D. in Chemistry where he worked on elucidating the production of pharmaceutically important natural products via fungal enzymes, including iterative polyketide synthases (PKSs) and unique oxygenases. Prior to his graduate studies, Justin completed his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in biochemistry at McMaster University. During his scientific career, Justin co-authored publications in high-impact scientific journals, including the Nature journal series and the Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS).
Prior to joining Marks & Clerk, Justin worked as patent agent in training for several firms across Canada. Justin provides patent prosecution and patent drafting services in several subject areas including: organic chemistry, biochemistry, agricultural and plant technology, biology, pharmaceutical sciences, clean technology and oil and gas technology. He also has experience in assisting with the prosecution of complex global patent portfolios.
In his spare time, Justin enjoys writing, watching and discussing television and movies. He also enjoys cooking, fermentation and walking with his dog Maya.
