Gerald specializes in chemistry and materials, including organic chemistry, polymer science, catalysis science and engineering and sustainability technology, medical technologies and diagnostics, manufacturing technologies, particularly in additive manufacturing, and agritechnology and food science. At Marks & Clerk Singapore LLP, Gerald is involved in the preparation, drafting and prosecution of patent applications in Singapore as well as overseas, particularly in Southeast Asia.
Gerald holds a BSc in Chemistry from the National University of Singapore, a MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the Nanyang Technological University and a Master’s degree in IP and Innovation Management (MIPIM) from the Singapore University of Social Sciences. Gerald also has prior research experience at a national pharmaceutical research institute, where he worked on the development of several molecular diagnostic assays and therapeutic peptides for infectious diseases.
Prior to joining Marks & Clerk Singapore LLP, Gerald was an IP manager at a national research agency, where he evaluated technology disclosures, particularly in the chemical, material and sustainability technical domains, and developed appropriate IP protection strategies at a portfolio level. Gerald also had the opportunity to train researchers while at the research agency, helping them understand the importance of IP protection when commercialising their inventions.
Gerald qualified as a Singapore Registered Patent Attorney in 2025, and is currently working towards qualification as a Chartered (UK) Patent Attorney.
