James has extensive experience handling patents in a very wide range of technologies, especially for electronics, mechanical and electro-mechanical inventions. He has particular experience in medical devices, automotive industries, semiconductor technologies and processing equipment, automation and industrial systems, manufacturing machinery and material handling equipment. James has had extensive involvement in Chinese, European, UK and Singaporean patents, Chinese, European and UK trade marks and Chinese, UK and Singaporean designs and currently advises clients in many aspects of Chinese IP protection.

James graduated from Cambridge University in 1989, with a degree in Engineering Science, and obtained a postgraduate diploma in Computer Science in 1990, also from Cambridge University. He entered the patent profession in 1990, working in private practice in London, where he qualified as a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and as a European Patent Attorney. He moved to work in private practice in Singapore in 2000, where he qualified as a Singaporean patent agent before joining Lloyd Wise (which merged with Marks & Clerk in 2007) and moving to Beijing in 2004.

Can there be an interim injunction before a patent is granted?

A patentee can bring an action for infringement only once the patent has been granted.  The claim need not be restricted to acts committed after grant.  It can extend to acts which were committed before the grant but after the date of publication of the patent application.
