Amrita is a partner at Marks & Clerk and Co-chair of the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice group in Canada. Amrita’s practice focuses on litigation in all areas of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyright, confidential information, and trade secrets.
Amrita has successfully represented numerous leading Canadian and international brands and innovators in reported and often precedent-setting decisions over the past decade, including Hilton Worldwide, CarGurus, Estée Lauder, and Fruit of the Loom, among others.
Amrita is a client-focused and strategic litigator, who strives to deliver positive and business-savvy outcomes. She is regarded as a “rare talent” by clients who note her superior analytical skills and ability to convey wisdom and provide sage counsel. Clients who work with Amrita appreciate her “work ethic and devotion to her clients [which] is second to none” and highly value her advice on managing complex litigation.
Outside of the firm, Amrita is very active in executive roles with the Ontario Bar Association (OBA) and is currently Co-Chair of the Pro Bono Committee, a member of OBA Council, and a past Chair of the Equality Committee and a member of the Board.
She is also the immediate Past Chair of the Canadian Bar Association's (CBA) Intellectual Property section and is currently on the Federal Court's IP Users Committee. She is the immediate past Chair of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada's (IPIC) Litigation committee and is on IPIC’s Women in IP committee. She is also a lecturer at the IPIC/McGill University Summer IP Courses.
In addition, she is actively engaged in initiatives and outreach supporting students and young lawyers, whom she mentors through the annual OJEN (Ontario Justice Education Network) mock trial, McGill Law School as well as through the OBA and IPIC.
Amrita is an active member of the Advocates' Society and Toronto Intellectual Property Group (TIPG), an elected member of Queen’s University Council, and has appeared as an expert witness in intellectual property law before the Canadian Federal government.
