Michael Barrett is a Partner in Marks & Clerk’s London office and a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney (UK). He has over 15 years’ experience as a trade mark attorney and more than 20 years’ experience as a solicitor.
Michael advises brand owners on all aspects of trade mark protection and registration, including portfolio management, clearance searching, trade mark prosecution, opposition, cancellation, revocation, licensing, assignment, infringement and passing-off. His experience across the full lifecycle of brand protection enables him to provide clear, practical guidance on managing and protecting trade mark rights.
Michael sits on the Financial Services and Creative Industries sector groups and assists clients in a variety of other sectors including transport, digital transformation, medtech, food and drink, homeware, retail & sports. He acts for a number of asset and wealth management enterprises, investment vehicles, real estate investors, commodities trading businesses. In the past, he provided trade marks advice as part of a team supporting a High Street bank.
Michael holds degrees from the University of Cambridge and the University of Liverpool, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Sports Law from King’s College, London. He joined Marks & Clerk LLP in 2017 and was made a Partner in 2021. His first language is English, and he also has conversational French and Spanish.
