Anis is a Chartered (UK) and European Patent Attorney specialising in matters relating to chemicals, materials, pharmaceuticals and medical device technologies.
Anis advises start-ups, universities and spin-outs, NHS trusts, SMEs as well as large multinational corporations on a range of technologies. He has extensive experience in the small molecule therapy, cardiovascular device, wound management and textile chemistry areas. Further afield, Anis also represents organisations operating within the agritech and confectionary goods industries.
Anis’ practice includes the drafting and prosecution of patent applications around the world, advising in relation to patent infringement matters as well as managing multi-jurisdictional freedom to operate projects. He also has particular experience in dealing with re-establishment and restoration matters across Europe. Anis is skilled in opposition proceedings at the European Patent Office having successfully opposed and defended European patents for his clients. In addition, he has experience of revocation proceedings at national courts.
Anis regularly delivers in-house IP training for his clients often focussing on upskilling senior management, R&D departments and marketing teams. He has also carried out secondment-based projects for his clients focussing on internal IP management processes and cost efficiencies.
Anis is a passionate advocate of the life sciences start-up community across the UK. On top of his client work, he regularly sits on judging panels for a number of start-up accelerator competitions and is frequently a guest speaker for Innovate UK.
Anis graduated from Imperial College London with a Master’s degree in Chemistry. He spent several years working as a medicinal chemist, focussing on small molecule inhibitors for treating neurodegenerative conditions, at GlaxoSmithKline prior to joining the patent attorney profession. Anis also practiced as a patent attorney in the Marks & Clerk Singapore office for a number of years and has the necessary qualifications to be considered a qualified Singapore Patent Attorney.
Anis has been identified as a Rising Star by Managing Intellectual Property in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
