James comes to us from a leading general law firm, where he is a former co-leader of that firm’s Chemistry Group. James is a registered Canadian patent agent who focuses his practice in the areas of patent drafting and prosecution, as well as global portfolio management. James practices particularly in the fields of life science, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, biotechnology, agriculture and material sciences. Over the course of his career James has received numerous accolades, including being named a 2016 Forty Under 40 award recipient by the Ottawa Business Journal and Ottawa Chamber of Commerce. James is an active member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada and has spoken at various industry conferences across the globe.
Complementing our existing biotechnology and chemistry teams, James’ extensive experience will help accelerate the growth of Marks & Clerk Canada’s patent practice in Ottawa and across Canada. James will be responsible for advising clients in all areas of patent protection including developing bespoke domestic and international protection strategies designed for each client’s specific needs. Drawing from his depth of knowledge, clients will also continue to benefit from Marks & Clerk’s market leading experts and network of 18 locations worldwide.
