The UKIPO is currently undergoing an ambitious digital transformation programme, with the aim of providing a modern, updated, and integrated digital platform for all aspects of IP rights. The stated aim is to launch the patents service in 2026, with trade marks and designs following. The patents service is currently undergoing trials with a small group of users.
However, it seems that this change has had a knock-on effect with UKIPO publication service. We have been advised, via CIPA, that patent publications (including published applications and granted patents) will experience delays for at least six months. This appears to be the result of new internal processes which have led to additional checks in the publication process and reduced capacity.
The UKIPO say they have prioritised improving these services and bringing additional capacity to the publishing process.
