We’re proud to share that Marks & Clerk has been recognised as one of the leading firms for Registered EU Designs (REUDs), according to the latest data-led report from Managing IP.
In the second instalment of Managing IP’s special report series, Michael Shaw shared insights on filing strategies, team management, and the evolving design landscape. He explained that Marks & Clerk identified the growing importance of both registered and unregistered design protection “a number of years ago,” and responded by establishing a specialist designs team with deep expertise in the field.
Michael notes that while design applications are sometimes perceived as straightforward, case law has shown the importance of a carefully formulated filing strategy. One that fully captures each novel feature, considers prior art, accounts for the designer’s degree of freedom, and aligns with both UK and Court of Justice of the EU case law.
This recognition reflects the strength of our European design practice and the trust our clients place in us to protect and enforce their design rights across the EU.
