This week, Alexis Vaughan, an associate in our Canadian litigation practice, will be attending the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) Annual Meeting in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
We asked her to share her thoughts with us as she heads out to the conference.
It will be your first time attending IPIC, what are you most looking forward to?
Although the panels and workshops are sure to be a highlight, as a first-time “in-person” attendee, I’m most looking forward to catching up with friends, peers and colleagues who practice IP across the country. I’m also excited to make new connections through the many networking opportunities offered throughout the conference.
They have a number of panels and workshops throughout the conference, are there any in particular you are most looking forward to attending?
All of the sessions look great – so I’m not sure I can choose just one! The organizers clearly made great efforts to pick interesting, engaging topics that cover key trends and changes in the IP industry and that are different from typical Continuing Professional Development webinars. I’m also really looking forward to hearing from the Keynote Speaker, Sage Paul, an award-winning indigenous artist and designer who does great work in guarding against cultural appropriation in clothing and their designs.
Of course, I would be remiss to not mention the “‘Fair’ or Foul? Copyright Battles” panel, moderated by my colleague and M&C Canada Partner and Head of Trademarks and Copyright, Cat Lovrics. I’ve heard that panel is not to be missed!
